Staying healthy and in shape is a challenge for a lot of people. Much of the economy is based off the fact that people have a desire to be healthy and strong. More specifically people have a desire to be healthy and strong and either A. Have no idea how to achieve their goal or B. Lack the motivation to achieve their goal. Whatever the case, there is an expansive economy for all things fitness related. There is a large community of gyms and workout centers where people pay for a membership to use the facilities. There are many different kinds of gyms that attract many different kinds of people. I’ve been a member at a gym before, actually I’ve been a member at a few different gyms. My motivation to workout is often times just the feeling of “needing to get my money’s worth,” that and the people watching. People watching is fun in all different places but it is extra fun at the gym. Last time I was at a YMCA struggling to get through a 3 mile run, I saw a guy waltz in in his jeans and leather dress shoes. Naturally, he caught my attention because he was the only not in snazzy “workout gear.” This dude was awesome. He waltzed right into the workout center and right over to an elliptical, jeans and all. I watched intently for the next 20 minutes or so as he pumped his legs up and down on the machine. He wore a smile from ear to ear as if it was the most amusing thing in the world. He was glancing back and forth at all the different people, just smiling away. I was so wrapped up in watching him I didn’t even notice I’d passed three miles…and my membership was justified. But I’ve decided to join a new gym, with better people watching. I’ve decided to join the gym where I can be completely entertained by interesting people doing weird things, people that don’t give a flip what other people think, I’ve decided to join whatever gym that this woman is in, because I could watch this ALL DAY.
